02 Jun 2010 - Scottish International.. Positive in all aspects!!!

I have just arrived back in Denmark after a being in Scotland for the week playing in the Scottish International Open.

I went to Scotland with pretty decent expectations as I have been playing well recently but for club and country and I had a level of confidence back in my game which was probably missing for a few months previously.

In the first round I got off to the best possible start and reconfirmed my good form with a 21-5 21-9 win over Austrian Matthias Bertsch in just 19 mins. That same day I got a bit of a fright against a young English guy I had never even heard of Nathan D’Cruz. To be fair to him he played very well and I had to dig deep to beat him in three sets.

In the third round I got back into the zone and played very well in beating the very good and dangerous Israeli number one Misha Zilberman in 2 sets 21-10 21-13 in a half hour on court.

At this stage I felt very comfortable on court and obviously confident and ready for my quarter final against Indian Sourabh Verma. Again I gave my opponent no chance to impose himself and I played to my game plan and was never really in trouble in a 21-11 21-13 win.

I now found myself in the semi final and up against Marc Zwiebler of Germany. Many of you will remember that it was Marc who beat me in the first round at the Beijing Olympics in three close sets and Marc recently got to the final of the Denmark Open Super Series so is on a run of good form himself.

This was always going to be a tough match and it proved to be just that. Zwiebler took the opening set to 12 but I bounced back to dish out the same score line in the second set to level it up. In the third I made to many unforced errors and I didn’t have to give Marc any second opportunity to seal the win in the deciding rubber.

So its 2-0 to Zwiebler in these big games but I know that my level is that and beyond and I’m happy with my performance in Scotland and now I can look forward to playing well for my club Gentofte again this week and then be ready for the big one…. The Irish International in the first week of December. I got to the final last year where I was beaten by Raj Ouseph so I will be hoping to go one better this year. There is a very high quality field entered for the tournament this year so if you want to see top quality badminton get to Baldoyle between the 3rd and 6th December.

See you all there
