02 Jun 2010 - Czech Open

I have just come back to my hotel after loosing in the semi final of the Czech Open to Petr Koukal in 2 sets.

I had a very positive start to the day with a good two set win over Emil Vind of Denmark in the quarter final. I have had mixed results against Emil in the past but today I brought a strong game with me and won in two sets 21-14 21-13.

In the semi final I faced off against number 1 seed for the tournament and local favourite Petr Koukal. I started the opening set extremely well and raced into mid set interval lead at 11-3. Petr, being as experienced as he is and with the local support behind him, remained calm and clawed back into the match and levelled at 16-16 but I still felt good and in control of my own game. The remainder of the set ebbed and flowed and at 20-20 it was finely balanced. Petr managed to take the set with the next 2 points.

In the second set I continued to play reasonably ok and both of us traded points and at 13-13 the second set was there to be taken. To his credit Petr found another gear and pulled away at the end of the set with a run of 3 and 4 points to close out the match with a 21-15 win.

All in all, while being disappointed to loose at semi final stage, I am reasonably happy with my development and the things I have been working hard on in training are starting to come through now in my tournament game. It was good for me to get a run of games here to build my confidence and I can now look forward to the run of three big upcoming tournaments here in Europe at the Bitburger Open and Danish and French Super Series tournaments.

I will head home to Denmark now to iron out and work on the things that need some attention but I can head home with my confidence at a new elevated level after my run to the semi final here in the Czech Republic.

All the best

Scott
